Put simply, an Actively Managed Certificate (AMC) is an actively managed investment basket within a single security.
Rather than purchasing various shares, bonds or other investments individually, the investor invests in a certificate that reflects a defined investment strategy.
The key difference compared to a static investment basket is that the portfolio can be actively adjusted during its term. Positions can be added, reduced or replaced if market conditions, valuations or investment opportunities change.
This makes AMCs particularly suitable for individual investment strategies, thematic investments and specialised satellite investments.

Investment Process & ORBIS
For equity-based strategies, the investment process can be supplemented by ORBIS.
ORBIS is a quantitative stock-selection tool that analyses companies using nine different algorithms and models covering the areas of quality, trend, value and risk.
This adds an additional layer of objective, data-driven analysis to the portfolio manager’s qualitative assessment.
As a result, investment ideas can be systematically reviewed, potential biases scrutinised, and the strengths and weaknesses of individual companies presented more transparently.
ORBIS enables the comparison of more than 100 companies across various:

- Investment themes
Companies can be analysed both within their respective investment universe and in comparison with their own historical performance and a freely selectable benchmark index.
The process is supplemented, amongst other things, by company-specific factsheets and rankings, a machine-learning component, as well as back-testing and stress testing.

Monitoring & Reporting
The process does not end with the launch of an AMC.
An actively managed strategy must be monitored on an ongoing basis and adjusted where necessary.
